The Itasca Interprofessional EcoHealth Experience team of founders and sustainers will present our journey from ideation to execution, as well as our plan to grow and advance this successful program model that focuses on the intersection between interprofessional healthcare education, practice, and One Health principles. The experience is homegrown, collaborating with students and faculty experts at the University of Minnesota and within the community to deliver an experience that naturally connects students to animals, plants, and the earth., Participants find deeper connections with one another and a renewed appreciation for sustainability and interprofessionalism that they can apply to their future practice. Learners participate in a series of focused case discussions, guided nature experiences, and community building opportunities throughout the weekend-long experience. Case discussions include a variety of specialized topics in the realms of One Health, Climate Change and Health Equity, and Animal, Plant, and Human Health, with many facilitated directly by guest faculty experts. Participant feedback to date regarding logistics, objective attainment, and the impact of intentional time in nature on personal wellbeing has been positive, and the ongoing evolution of the experience continues to incorporate the student voice to maximize overall impact of the weekend for learners.
Learning Objectives:
Following this session, attendees will:
- understand how to build and measure experience around an EcoHealth experience and describe how the experience can relate to current student and future individual health professional's practice of wellbeing in a nature setting.
- learn about the success of traveling to nature and connecting with other professions and the ecosystem to practice interprofessional collaboration and participate in intentional wellbeing activities.
We hope this practice of immersion in nature with colleagues will enhance future collaborative practice, by encouraging humanistic connection.
