The University of Wisconsin-Madison Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (UW CIPE) and the UW–Madison Teaching Academy have partnered to offer the Joint Teaching Academy and UW CIPE Distinguished Interprofessional Practice and Education (IPE) Fellowship. Distinguished fellowships are awarded to faculty members, academic staff, and professional students in recognition of their excellence in IPE teaching, practice, research, and/or leadership at UW–Madison and beyond. The Joint Dual IPE Distinguished Fellowship lasts for a period of five years with a possibility for renewal as a life-long UW IPE Distinguished Fellow.
The University of Wisconsin-Madison Teaching Academy currently sits under the purview of the Vice Provost for Teaching and Learning with a mission to promote, recognize and support excellence in teaching and learning among faculty, staff, and students across campus and beyond. Inherently, the Teaching Academy is interprofessional and recognizes excellence in teaching. Faculty and academic staff are recognized as Fellows whereas they served as instructors for a minimum of three years at UW Madison and are recognized by peers, supervisors, and students as excellent teachers.
Distinguished IPE Fellowship applicants must 1.) Be a member (or eligible to be a member) of the UW- Madison Teaching Academy, 2.) Provide evidence of exemplary achievement and contribution in two or more of the following interprofessional areas: practice, education, research, and/or leadership towards addressing/advancing the Quintuple Aim; and 3.) Provide evidence of active engagement and commitment towards advancing IPE at UW through the work of UW CIPE.
This Lightning Talk will describe this program recognizing IPE excellence in leadership, teaching, practice, and research, raising the visibility of these individuals and their strong IPE work across campus. Although the Joint Dual IPE Fellowship recognizes existing leadership in IPE, the program also supports sustained leadership efforts through ongoing engagement with CIPE as a condition of acceptance. A current fellow will detail rationale for applying for the fellowship which includes increased opportunities to influence University-wide educational offerings and assessment in interprofessional education. The fellow will also emphasize the importance of developing and implementing a fellowship program which dually benefits the Center and fellows through increased visibility and demonstration of teaching excellence while creating additional opportunities for partnership in scholarship, leadership, and service within the University system.
Presentation attendees will learn how one university has implemented an IPE leadership recognition program for potential replication on their own campuses, improving their own pipeline of future IPE leaders.
