Dr. Mitchell Heflin is a co-lead for the HRSA funded Stress First Aid Program at Duke University. He is Associate Dean and Director of the Duke Health Center for Interprofessional Education and Care (IPEC) and Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatrics for Duke University Schools of Medicine and Nursing. As a leader in Geriatrics and health professions education, he has focused on development of education programs aimed at interprofessional teams introducing innovative models of care with a specific emphasis on community-based and perioperative care of frail older adults. In his current role, he oversees the design, delivery, and evaluation of interprofessional education programming for health professions students across campus.
Presenting at the Nexus Summit:
Participants will learn the basics of the Stress First Aid (SFA) for Healthcare Workers and its application among the current and future healthcare workforce. Specifically, grantees from the Health Resources and Services Administration initiatives at Duke University, North Carolina Central University, and the University of Virginia will describe their initiatives focused on its delivery for health professions students and clinicians.

Telehealth has become a mainstream form of patient engagement since the pandemic. Prior to COVID, health profession students had limited or no exposure to telehealth. Currently, health profession programs are increasingly adopting telehealth training into their curriculum. Given the "newness" of telehealth curricula, there is an opportunity to train health profession students in the use of telehealth utilizing an interprofessional collaborative practice model.
