Dr. April D. Newton, PT, DPT, PhD, FNAP, is the Director of Interprofessional Practice Development at Indiana University's Interprofessioanl Practice and Education Center. She is a clinical assistant professor of family medicine in the IU School of Medicine and the department of physical therapy. In addition to her academic and precepting responsibilities, Dr. Newton’s roles include developing and integrating interprofessional education and collaborative practice curricula. She provides oversight and direction to collaborative care clinics at the IU Health Central Indianapolis Family Medicine Residency Clinic and is a clinical advisor for the Well Child and Oral Health Clinic and the Indiana University Student Outreach Clinic.

This seminar focuses on a team-based care model for managing patients’ chronic pain that is also complicated by complex medical conditions. The Comprehensive Pain Assessment Clinic (CoPAC) provides assessment and care for patients through an interprofessional education and collaborative practice (IPECP) approach delivered by providers and learners from seven professions: chaplaincy, dentistry, nursing, medicine, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and social work.
