The Patient as Co-Creator
The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center is a comprehensive Academic Health Center with seven health professions colleges and an interdisciplinary graduate college focused on the biomedical sciences. Within OU Health Sciences there are more than 70 programs of study for students, residents, fellows and post-doctoral fellows. Panel members will discuss their experiences as sponsors and co-creators of teaching and learning opportunities with advocates, patients, and their family members. Session participants will contribute their experiences to the discussion and will receive a booklet the panel co-created to share experiences and ideas that can complement work underway, or getting started, at participants’ home institutions and their communities.
Session Objectives:
1. Describe the Role of Patients and Families as Co-Educators (for Interdisciplinary Education)
2. Identify Strategies to Engage Community Members as Co-Creators [Recruitment]
3. List Design Elements for Effective Preparation and Support Programs
4. Develop Retention (Renewal), Recognition and Reward Mechanisms
5. Evaluate Outcomes and Impact
