Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) is a complex disease that requires interprofessional practice and collaboration. Many medical schools do not provide interdisciplinary education on TMD or provide education specifically to medical students only. In collaboration with Marquette University, medical and dental students came together to learn about TMD and how to work in an interprofessional collaborative setting to treat TMD. This talk will provide an overview of the session, including the various learning stations students participated in (physical therapy, dentistry, anatomy and physiology) and information presented to students in these sessions. We will discuss the changes in pre/post knowledge of TMD. We will also discuss the results of the subjective assessment of the IPE competencies, focusing on roles and responsibilities and communication. The session will highlight how various learning stations can demonstrate the importance of collaboration in the treatment of TMD utilizing an interprofessional lens and will discuss lessons learned in the development and implementation of the Interprofessional TMD session. We will highlight future directions, including next steps in continuing to build IPE activities on TMD. This session fulfills the activity as it is important for students to learn how to work with other healthcare professionals in the diagnosis and treatment of TMD, in order to provide the best patient care outcomes.
