Courtney Barry, PsyD, MS is a licensed Clinical Health Psychologist and an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. She serves as the director of IPE for the School of Medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin. Dr. Barry completed a research fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin, which focused on understanding the importance of utilizing a biopsychosocial approach to care. She has a research interest in trauma and trauma-informed care, which highlights the importance of interprofessional collaboration. She realized that education is key and provides an opportunity to learn from and with other healthcare professionals. Her main purpose in education is to meet the needs of the learners and to allow learners to assist in the development of training. Through her work, she has realized that educating students in interprofessional care not supports providers, but also helps to provide the best patient-centered care.

Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD) is a complex disease that requires interprofessional practice and collaboration. Many medical schools do not provide interdisciplinary education on TMD or provide education specifically to medical students only. In collaboration with Marquette University, medical and dental students came together to learn about TMD and how to work in an interprofessional collaborative setting to treat TMD.
