The team of interprofessional educators will present their preliminary findings of the patient perception of teamwork for an allied health profession-led interprofessional clinic and compare these with the perceptions of preceptors and students. There is a gap in the evidence base for the representation of allied health participation in interprofessional (IP) education publications and a gap in allied health IP research studying the patient experience of IP clinical interventions [1]. This research is building the evidence base for interprofessional practice and education. The Unity Clinic at Keys (UaK) is an allied health student-led outpatient clinic that combines primary and rehabilitative care with teams composed of audiology, nursing, occupational therapy, social work, and speech-language pathology. The UaK uses a well-developed teamwork design that provides onboarding education to facilitators and students and a protocol that is consistent in the various Unity Clinic experiences promoting student-led teamwork development while providing IP client care where the patient is the core team member. This research investigates the alignment of the patient perception of teamwork with that of the healthcare providers, with positive correlations between the stakeholders supporting the assertion that the patient experience is improved with strong IP teamwork.
Our Lightning Talk will provide learners with a model of facilitated team-based practice as an immersive and integrative interprofessional education experience. Learners will additionally be presented with a systematic method for obtaining outcome measures from the healthcare team, which includes the patient, and using the data to improve care and education in this model.
