Lightning Talk Live Discussion Recording

This session will present and discuss the findings from focus groups comprising preceptors and regional practice leaders, aimed at identifying essential interprofessional education topics for practicing preceptors. Four focus groups were conducted with six education and clinical practitioners across the state and this session will explore and deliberate on the themes that emerged from focus group findings. Examples of themes identified include appreciating the importance of the roles and values of other professions, learning how to give feedback to learners from other professions, and how to create psychologically safe learning environments for others.  The initiative represents a concerted effort between academic interprofessional leaders at UNC-Chapel Hill and partnering practice sites across two North Carolina locales. Participants will gain insights and strategies to conduct their own focus groups as well as the prevalent themes applicable to their own preceptor development strategies. This session will fulfill Nexus priority criteria by presenting complete results from the focus group project, presented directly by two of the coordinators of the focus group project, and engaging attendees to share or explore how they have or might assess preceptor development needs for interprofessional education skills and topics.
