Shannon has been an occupational therapy practitioner in RI since 1999, working with older adults in short and long-term care facilities. She has worked with individuals who have physical, cognitive, and mental health impairments that hinder their ability to complete the daily tasks they need and want to do as well as possibly return to their prior home. Shannon has extensive experience as a rehab manager in skilled nursing facilities, leading the occupational, physical, and speech therapy staff while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Shannon is an associate professor within Johnson & Wales University’s entry-level occupational therapy doctorate program. She is currently focusing on advocacy for the OT profession.

Since the early 2000s, there has been an increasing concern about medical errors, patient safety, and the quality of healthcare delivery in the U.S. This highlights the need for health professionals to work effectively in teams (NEXUSIPE 2023).
