Sadie Trammell Velasquez, MD, FACP has established three IPE activities in the core medical curriculum, two of which are longitudinal. She has been active in the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine IPE Task Force and the LINC Didactic IPE Initiative, contributions that have resulted in three peer-reviewed articles, including two as first and corresponding author. Dr. Velásquez was selected to lead the interprofessional team assembled to develop and implement the university-wide LINC IPE Simulation Experience, which began in Spring 2023.

Background, Problem, Aims: To strengthen IPE simulation focused on interprofessional communication, part of preparing students for collaborative practice, health professions educators should deliberately incorporate hybrid instructional methods to bypass logistical hurdles and longitudinal approaches to achieve higher-level learning outcomes. The Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine (LSOM) is one of six schools at UT Health San Antonio (UTHSA), home to over twenty-five health professions and biomedical research degree programs. Using HPAC guidance as our framework and the IPEC competencies as common language/educational targets, UTHSA established and sustains a centralized coordinating structure that strengthens our capacity for quality IPE.
