My research focuses on health promotion, psychosocial and self-management behaviors in adults with hypertension. My long-term goal is to build a program of interdisciplinary research to promote health, reduce chronic conditions such as obesity and hypertension among adults and mitigate health issues related to climate change. I enjoy collaborating with students, as mentoring next-generation nurses and nurse scientists is an important career goal of mine. The proposed study will provide didactic nursing education geared toward the delivery of culturally competent care, addressing SDOH while developing skills in leadership, communication, and critical thinking in a technologically innovative and collaborative practice environment.

This Lightening Talk will describe a federally funded, nurse-led mobile health program that addresses the health consequences of climate change and the social determinants of health (SDOH) disproportionately impacting low socioeconomic populations and communities of color.
