Dr. Beard is a registered nurse with 30+ years of professional nursing experience. She has spent the last 22 years in prelicensure nursing education. Prior to her current role as the Director of the Nursing Program at Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences, Dr. Beard served as a classroom and clinical instructor as well as the Simulation Coordinator. She earned her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership with a focus in nursing education where her dissertation centered on psychological safety in the prelicensure nursing classroom. Her research was recently published in the April 2024 issue of Teaching and Learning in Nursing.

The purpose of this lightning talk is to highlight the creation, implementation, and assessment of a multi-university interprofessional education (IPE) experience which involved medicine, nursing, and pharmacy students. This education experience used IPE as a pedagogical approach to intersect ethical principles and communication strategies on healthcare provider (HCP) substance use disorder (SUD).
