Dr. McMullin is an academic whose work transcends disciplinary boundaries, embracing an intentionally interdisciplinary research agenda rooted in applied anthropology. With a focus on inclusion and collaboration, her work seeks to amplify the voices of marginalized communities, particularly Native Hawaiian and Native American groups. Her research explores the intersection of cancer, social relationships, and inequalities, with a recent focus on graphic medicine and methodology in addressing societal inequalities. Her commitment to community engagement extends to her teaching and service, where she provides students and non-academics with the tools to engage in meaningful debates and address the inequalities that shape their lives.

Our lightning talk will focus on an innovative interprofessional curriculum, the Medical Ethics, Sociology and Humanities (MESH course), which aims to cultivate critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and cultural understanding among healthcare students. This innovative course covers a wide array of topics, including social determinants of health, medical narratives, climate change and medicine, LGBTQ+ healthcare, culinary medicine, and structural violence.
