Dr. Farmer serves as the Executive Director of Interprofessional Practice and Behavioral Health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center, working to integrate behavioral health in HSC Health's primary care clinics. He served as the founding Director of the Department of Interprofessional Education at UNTHSC from 2012 through 2021. Dr. Farmer is an Associate Professor of Medical Education and Health Systems Science teaching skills development in clinical communication and emotional intelligence with first and second year medical students. He also precepts family medicine residents in behavioral health and maintains an active counseling practice in the Family Medicine clinic.

As the Texas IPE Consortium approaches its tenth anniversary, it stands as a model for developing and sustaining leadership in interprofessional practice and education across Texas. The consortium provides: annual meetings focused on best practices in IPE, virtual conversations in IPE; in-person and virtual trainings for TeamSTEPPS, IPE Facilitation and Rapid Teaming; and has established a fellows program to mentor and support leaders in IPE.
