The purpose of this lightening talk is to share how an academic institution can partner and build relationship with their county fire rescue team and help in some of their community initiatives such as fall prevention and risk assessments. More than 1 out of 4 older adult falls each year and falling once, increases risk of recurrent falls. Calls for falls have increased in our county, and the complexity of the issues have led to the need for interprofessional collaboration to improve health outcomes of our community. During this session, strategies on building sustainable partnerships between an academic institution and the county fire rescue as well as the impact of an educational session led by nursing and pharmacy faculty on fall prevention and risk assessment for the Palm Beach County Fire Rescue team will be discussed. Palm Beach County Fire Rescue team partnered with CDC STEADI initiative to help prevent and decrease falls. Risk factors such as medical conditions and medications are among the top reasons why patients fall. Therefore, providing education to the fire rescue team on this initiative regarding the various medications and medical conditions is important as together we navigate complex issues related to falls in the community and provide an opportunity to collaborate for better health. An anonymous post-pre-post survey through Microsoft Forms was provided at the end of the session for attendees. Using descriptive statistics, data will be shared on the impact of the educational interventions and the outcomes of our partnership, along the continual fostering of collaborative services.
