The Funfetti Approach to Patient Family Engagement for Equity
Patient family engagement (PFE) is an active strategy to improve healthcare outcomes. Essential to healthcare improvement is a focus on the inequities our communities face. This seminar will explore the Funfetti Approach to Patient Family Engagement for Equity, baking in the lived experiences of people into healthcare improvement processes and activities. We are unable to achieve health equity without the perspectives and insights of patients, family caregivers, and the community. The National Academy of Medicine states we “can’t achieve equity without engaging the people who experience disparities.” Participants will leave the session equipped with practical strategies to engage diverse perspectives of patients and family caregivers through inclusive activities within their organizations.
Objectives:
• Discover the "Funfetti Approach" to patient family engagement for equity (PFEE) and its role in promoting diversity and inclusion,
• Participate in interactive sessions including improv exercises to demonstrate real-world applications of PFEE strategies.
• Identify various "lanes" of engagement and highlight examples of impactful PFE initiatives.
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the importance of patient family engagement in achieving equity in healthcare and acquire practical skills and strategies to enhance patient family engagement within their future work. Participants will leave the seminar empowered to foster a culture of inclusivity and collaboration, ultimately improving patient outcomes, and reducing healthcare disparities.
