Johns Hopkins University
My name is Sue Mead, MS, Parent Advisor on Staff and Johns Hopkins Chidlren's Center and I am the parent of a 18-year Brain tumor survivor who was successfully treated at the age of 3. I am a founding member of the Pediatric Family Advisory Council (PFAC) at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center, which began in 2008 and was a long-time volunteer on the Council, holding various leadership positions. In 2015, I was hired as a Parent Advisor on Staff at the Children’s Center where I hold a .75FTE. I help run our PFAC as well as Patient and Family Centered Care (PFCC) Programming in the Children’s Center. This entails the recruitment and onboarding of new parent advisors and agenda setting and facilitation of monthly PFAC meetings. Additionally, I advocate for Patient and Family Centered practices by representing the patient and parent voice on over 33 different hospital committees across JHM, ranging from the JHH Quality & Safety Council to unit CUSP teams. Furthermore, I lead many educational sessions with both staff and students across the institution talking about the importance of PFCC.
