Dr. Shanta R. Dube is Professor and Interim Director of the Department of Public Health and Director, Master of Public Health Program, at Wingate University. She is a behavioral and social epidemiologist with a 25-year career in public health. Her research focuses on adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and social determinants of health. Her research contributions from the landmark CDC-Kaiser ACE Study gained national and international recognition. She has also led surveillance in CDC’s Office on Smoking and Health and reported increases in e-cigarette use. Currently, Shanta focuses on ACEs advocacy and evaluating programs for substance use disorders, using an ACEs science and trauma-informed framework.

Background: Honduras is classified as a middle-income country with rural areas that lack basic healthcare services.
