Sarah Garber, PhD, is the Director of Interprofessional Studies and Professor in the College of Pharmacy, Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science. She received her Bachelor's in Biology and Chemistry from Barnard College and her PhD in Biochemistry from Brandeis University. She came to RFUMS in 1999 in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics in the Medical School. Dr. Garber joined the Department of Interprofessional Healthcare Studies in the College of Health Professions in 2005 and continues to be committed to promoting interprofessional student and faculty involvement in biomedical research, scholarship, education and assessment.

Qualitative analysis of interprofessional simulations identified student-derived themes of Conflict, Feedback, Roles, Patient Care, Team Operations, Time-Outs, and Priorities. These alternative themes provide a more applicable and practical approach to understanding metacognitive processes underlying interprofessional team learning behaviors when compared to the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) core sub-competency themes.

Interprofessional education (IPE) in healthcare training strives to create a collaborative healthcare workforce for the betterment of patient care. One of the aims of IPE experiences is to challenge healthcare hierarchies, with the focus being on fluid leadership amongst healthcare team members.
