Midge Hobbs, OT, OTD, OTR, FNAP, is the Assistant Dean for Interprofessional Education and Assistant Professor at the MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston, MA. Originally from the UK, Midge has clinical expertise in long-term acute care and rehab settings but specializes in adolescent mental health and maintains a consultancy role with Sheppard Pratt Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Since 2015, she has developed innovative core interprofessional curricula for health professions students across six different disciplines at the IHP, as well as implemented interprofessional faculty trainings aligned with the Institute’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) principles. Midge also helped launch a unique interprofessional Balint group for health professions educators and staff at the Institute with the goal of addressing employee wellbeing and community-building and is currently on a facilitator training track with the American Balint Society.

Burnout among health professions educators and leaders is prevalent due to increasingly heavy workloads, administrative demands, and emotional strain. Studies indicate high rates of burnout, which impact teaching quality and faculty retention (American Psychological Association, 2024). Addressing support systems and emotional well-being are crucial ingredients for mitigating burnout's adverse effects on educators and their learners—our future healthcare professionals.
