Melissa Hood is an Educational Planner in the Department of Continuing Education for Health Professionals at East Tennessee State University, Quillen College of Medicine. Ms. Hood received her Master of Public Health with a concentration in Healthcare Administration from East Tennessee State University and is certified as a Healthcare Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Professional. Throughout her career, Melissa has worked in a variety of healthcare roles in both clinical and educational settings. Melissa enjoys developing and implementing strategies to promote interprofessional team communication skills to improve patient safety and outcomes.

Interprofessional collaboration interventions have the potential to improve healthcare outcomes and lead to an improved culture of safety. The East Tennessee State University’s (ETSU) Center for Interprofessional Collaboration (CIC) and the Department of Continuing Education for Health Professionals (DCEHP) deliver a recurring interprofessional series in an experiential environment.
