Krista D. Capehart, PharmD, MS, BCACP, FAPhA, AE-C, is a Clinical Professor and Director of the Wigner Institute at West Virginia University School of Pharmacy. She is Director of Professional and Regulatory Affairs at the West Virginia Board of Pharmacy. Dr. Capehart completed her Doctor of Pharmacy at the University of Michigan and Master of Science in Pharmacy at the University of Florida. She has led numerous regulatory advancements including pharmacist contraceptive prescribing and been pharmacy lead for WV COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution. She has received recognitions including 2024 Phi Lambda Sigma Lifetime Achievement Award, 2022 APhA Hubert H Humphrey Award, and the 2021 National American Pharmacist Association Immunization Champion, 2020 National Woman Pharmacist of the Year.

One aim of Healthy People 2030 is to reduce unintended pregnancies and increase family planning. Improving access to contraceptives and providing appropriate education on how to use contraceptive devices are crucial to this. One medical resident recognized that his coresidents did not feel confident in this area and decided to partner with a student pharmacist to improve this knowledge deficit.
