Katie’s introduction to the nursing world began in 2008 where she began working as a certified nursing assistant, and that is where she found her passion for critical care. In 2011 Katie graduated from Trinity Christian College with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and began her first RN job in the intensive care unit (ICU). She worked in various ICUs as a RN until 2016 when she obtained her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from Governor’s State University and began her current job as a Trauma Surgery/Surgical Trauma ICU Nurse Practitioner at Advocate Christ Hospital. Katie then continued her education and obtained her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in 2021. In addition to her clinical practice, Katie has been on as faculty at UIC in the college of nursing since 2017. Her areas of interests include simulation, interprofessional education, trauma, critical care, and violence prevention.

Interprofessional communication is a requirement of patient care and there is need to standardize interprofessional handoff approaches as communication breakdown can result in medical errors (Choi & Chang, 2021). The purpose of this poster is to present findings from a simulated interprofessional handoff project developed to prepare collaborative ready health care professionals to perform accurate and appropriate handoffs when caring for patients.
