Gundy Sweet is Assistant Dean for Curriculum and Assessment, and clinical professor at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. She earned her PharmD degree at the University of the Pacific and completed two years of post-graduate training in clinical pharmacy practice. Dr. Sweet is responsible for ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and providing continuous review of the pharmacy curriculum and student outcomes. She serves on the executive committee for the U-M Center for Interprofessional Education (IPE) and is co-chair of the IPE Curriculum Committee. Her teaching includes collaborating with others to integrate IPE offerings within the PharmD program.

Background:Health professions students need training in interprofessional collaboration and geriatrics principles to meet the needs of an aging population. Polypharmacy is a common geriatric syndrome, which increases pill burden, adverse drug reactions, drug-drug interactions, and medical costs.
