Dr. Chown is the Director of the Health Sciences program at Salisbury University. Before joining SU, he was a tenured Associate Professor of occupational therapy at Alvernia University for 12 years. He is also an adjunct lecturer at Faculté des Sciences de Réhabilitation de Léogâne in Haiti and the University of St. Augustine in Florida. Dr. Chown's clinical focus has been hand injuries and burns in Canada and Singapore. Dr. Chown has presented lectures and research worldwide and has published articles in the Journal of Burns, OT Practice, Open Journal of Occupational Therapy, and Journal of Health and Interprofessional Practice.

International service learning (ISL) is a pedagogy suggested to produce “high impact” learning and outcomes for students and the community by combining community service with structured learning objectives, preparation, and reflection.
