Emily Zimmerman has 6 years of experience in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at the Children's Hospital of Illinois as a bedside nurse before transitioning to an Acute Care Pediatric Nurse Practitioner at Texas Children's Hospital PICU where she worked for 3 years. She started working at the Children's Hospital of Illinois, working as an APRN in the PICU the last 2 years. Emily began working as an Advanced Practice Clinical Education Specialist in 2023, working to create and implement curriculum across the OSF Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship programs.

A large, system-based, accredited transition-to-practice program for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) and Physician Assistants (PAs ), known as the Advanced Practice Provider (APP) fellowship, expanded the program into the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) of the Children’s Hospital in late 2022. During the same year, the PICU launched a medical fellowship program.
