Elshimaa Basha is a Senior Instructor at the University of Colorado. She also serves as the Director of Simulation and Assessments where she is responsible for evaluation and curriculum innovation. She serves on several committees across the Anschutz Medical Campus and advises on evaluation, standardized patient training, and case development. She received her Master’s in Public Health with a focus on health disparities from Creighton University School of Medicine. She is currently completing a community and behavioral health dissertation through the Colorado School of Public health. She is committed to health equity education and evaluation for all learners and communities.

The opioid epidemic is a current public health emergency. Opioid overdoses caused over 100,000 deaths in the U.S. in 2022 alone and continues to rise. Addressing this epidemic takes a collaborative and interprofessional approach. Background To address critical collaborative practice skills, we developed a 1-credit hour Interprofessional Collaborative Practice (IPCP) course for early health profession learners from six programs. IPCP cultivates fundamental competencies in teamwork and collaboration. Through a combination of synchronous and asynchronous modules, learners engage in interprofessional teams to achieve course objectives including understanding team and professional roles, exploring effective teamwork, providing feedback, and recognizing the impact of collaboration on healthcare outcomes.
