Elke Zschaebitz is a family nurse practitioner and Associate Professor at Georgetown University School of Nursing. She is a member of the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) Global Education Institute on the Certification and Mentorship Committee. She serves as PI on several educational grants, including a national grant from the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners for educational research using digital first-person narratives. She was the co-recipient of the Georgetown Provost Innovation in Teaching Award as well as The Interprofessional Global Award for seven years creating content and facilitating the Virtual Interprofessional Education (VIPE).

In his pivotal work, Pedagogy of the Oppressed Paola Freire (1968) argues that one cannot expect positive results from an educational methodology that fails to respect the particular experience of people from whom language and learning are born.
