Dr. Cross is the Assistant Vice Provost and Director of the Center for Interprofessional Collaboration at East Tennessee State University. He has 30 years of clinical experience in many varied clinical areas giving him a broad understanding of establishing collaborative/interprofessional services in many settings. He’s been awarded multiple teaching awards from colleges of pharmacy, nursing, and medicine. He has spoken on the connection between collaborative practice and learning/training at national and international meetings. He was a Fulbright Scholar with the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland focused on Interprofessional Learning.

Planning is key for effective facilitation that engages students in active and collaborative learning. Regardless of class size and student location, many barriers to collaborative learning can be overcome through an intentional planning process that includes the use of technology and facilitator training. ,Planned facilitation can guide the full group of learners to be engaged and rely on one another to achieve a common goal.
