Beverly Heinze-Lacey, MPH, BSN, RN, directs the Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH), School Health Institute for Education and Leadership Development (SHIELD) program (https://shield.bu.edu/). SHIELD is a workforce training center for school health professionals that is funded by the MA Department of Public Health. Beverly specializes in curriculum design and development for school health professional and has led projects ranging from foundational school nursing practice to leadership. Beverly received her Masters in Public Health (Epidemiology/Biostatistics) degree from the BUSPH and her Bachelors of Science in Nursing from University of Massachusetts Lowell. She has also earned a Masters Certificate in Health Professions Education from the BU Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine. Beverly worked for nearly 10 years as a school nurse and manager in Massachusetts. She also managed a statewide SBIRT in Schools training initiative when substance use screening was mandated by MA law in 2016. Prior to working in school health, Beverly worked as a clinical research nurse and an HIV/AIDS epidemiologist.
