Amy Akerman, MPAS, PA-C, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Child Health Associate/Physician Assistant (CHA/PA) Program at the University of Colorado. She has served as an Assistant Director for the CU Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education (CU CIPE) at the Anschutz Medical Campus since 2016. She was a member of the IPEC Core Competencies Revisioning Working Group and is the co-director for CHA/PA’s Foundations in Prevention, Advocacy and Professional Practice courses. Amy's scholarship interests include interprofessional education, PA professional advocacy, health and educational equity.

The opioid epidemic is a current public health emergency. Opioid overdoses caused over 100,000 deaths in the U.S. in 2022 alone and continues to rise. Addressing this epidemic takes a collaborative and interprofessional approach.
