Barbara F. Brandt Leadership Award

The Barbara F. Brandt Leadership Award honors an individual or organization that has demonstrated outcomes that have advanced the Nexus of interprofessional practice and education, with a commitment to scholarship and resilience in bringing people together with a focus on improving outcomes that matter.

This award honors the transformative leadership and scholarly contributions of Barbara F. Brandt, EdM, PhD, FNAP, Founding Director and Senior Advisor to the National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education. Dr. Brandt’s work to improve patient care and learning through interprofessional collaboration in the community has spanned nearly forty years. Her extraordinary contributions, from the creation of the Nexus concept to her thought-provoking scholarship, and her dedication to improving outcomes that matter for patients and learners form the guiding principles of this award.

The Barbara F. Brandt Leadership Award is open to applicants from across the spectrum of the practice and education Nexus with a dedication to scholarship, the Nexus concept, and outcomes.

Selection Criteria

The successful nominee will demonstrate excellence in most or all of the following:

  • Documented history of sustained work in the Nexus of interprofessional practice and education.
  • Demonstrated commitment to building and sustaining academic-practice and/or academic-community partnerships to advance interprofessional practice and education.
  •  A history of achieving health and learning outcomes that matter.
  • Peer-reviewed scholarship describing the process and outcomes of the interprofessional work.
  • A track record of mentoring or coaching others to develop their own interprofessional Nexus partnerships and outcomes.

 

Application, Selection Process, and Notification

Applications and supporting materials are submitted online. The deadline for submission is Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 11:59 pm CST. The Nexus Summit 2024 awards committee will review applications for alignment with the criteria below, and awardees will be notified by Monday, August 19, 2024.

 

Application Elements

Applications will include the following elements and can be uploaded below:

  1. Statement of Achievement (maximum of two pages, single spaced, 1-inch margins with 12 point font), to include :
    • How the individual or organization has demonstrated outcomes that have advanced their practice and education Nexus
    • The areas of focus and impact of scholarly contributions to advance the field of interprofessional practice and education
  2. Abbreviated CV (up to 5 pages) for an individual OR an organizational statement (up to 3 pages) for an organization
  3. Letter(s) of recommendation:
    • A letter of recommendation from an individual that is familiar with your work and contributions to a field of interprofessional practice and education (required)
    • A letter of recommendation from an individual that has benefited from your work in the Nexus of practice and education (This could be a patient, administrator, learner, or community organization, etc.). (recommended)

Presentation of Award

The awardee (or a representative of the awardee organization) must be able to attend Nexus Summit 2024 and will be recognized during a major session. The awardee will be invited to share a short video featuring their accomplishments.
